William Wilkie Collins — a classic of English literature of the XIX century, known in history as the father of modern detective fiction. The success of the works of Collins, from the pen of which was published twenty-three novels and four collections of short stories and novels, was a combination of different genres: the writer skillfully combines in his books the romance, mystery and pravoohranitelnye novel, generously seasoning them with elements of the Gothic novel.
