Description
"Duel" is one of the most famous novels of Alexander Ivanovich Kuprin (1870-1938), a great Russian novelist with an amazing destiny: after the October revolution he went into exile, about twenty years he lived in Paris, but the longing for the homeland shortly before his death forced him to return. He died in Gatchina near Leningrad and was buried at the legendary "Literatorskie Mostki" at Volkovskoe cemetery. When in 1905, the "Duel" appeared in print, Kuprin's name has become known throughout the read Russia. The story was published with a dedication to Maxim Gorky and earned enthusiastic praise of critics and of Leo Tolstoy. This little thing extremely clearly shows "the horror and boredom of military life", extols the purity and strength of this feeling, the triumph of the human spirit. High the act of the Lieutenant Romashova, who died at the hands of the enemy, becomes a perfect example of love and confirms the eternal truth of which the writer spoke in his works: love is stronger than death.
