In his book, Yevgeny Yevtushenko tells about the history of the Thirteenth Symphony by Shostakovich, which rightfully belongs to the great works of the twentieth century, and the history of his poem "Babi Yar", published in "Literaturnaya Gazeta" in 1961 and immediately became the event. The thirteenth Symphony Shostakovich composed on poems by Yevtushenko, through music, he spoke about the tragedy that happened in 1941, and created "the first sounding monument of Babi Yar". In the book Yevtushenko poetry alternates with memories, excerpts from letters, newspaper articles, documents - the theme of Babi Yar is placed in a broad cultural context.
