This book is the first biography of the "father of the Soviet hydrogen bomb" and the first Russian winner of the Nobel peace prize. It is based on a unique, recently declassified archival documents and about fifty interviews historian of science Gennady Gorelik with the people who knew Andrei Sakharov as a student, then an outstanding physicist and, finally, exiled human rights activist.
