Description
The novel "the insulted and injured" (1861) was created by Dostoyevsky in an era of unprecedented upsurge of Russian public life - in an era when the publication of new literary works was seen as a socially significant event. So it was accepted and the emergence of the novel "Humiliated and offended". After the release of N. A. Dobrolyubov took Dostoevsky a place of honor in the "humanistic" direction of Russian literature. Much in this novel, readers seemed unusual: before them was set a new ethical and social problem of selfishness. Prince Valkovsky, unfolding on the pages of the novel his cynical "philosophy of life" became the first work of the writer as a hero-"ideologue", the predecessor of the Man from underground, Raskolnikov, Svidrigailov, and other heroes of Dostoevsky, 1860-1870-ies.
