The novel "the Player" is in the works by F. M. Dostoevsky special place - it is exceptionally strong autobiographical motifs: the perennial fascination of the writer playing roulette and a complex, painful relationship with A. P. Suslova. The idea of "the Player" appeared in 1863 in the Fall of 1865, experiencing financial difficulties, Dostoevsky in just 26 days dictated the text of the novel to his stenographer, A. G. Snitkina (who later became his wife). According to her memories, when in the process of working on the novel, discussed the fate of the characters, "Fyodor Mikhailovich was quite the "player" and said that much of his feelings and impressions experienced myself.
