Lost illusions is a novel by Balzac, published in "the Human Comedy" into "Scenes of provincial life", in fact gives a vivid and fantastically detailed panorama of life in the French capital, again persuading the amazing ability of French classics to penetrate into every sphere of contemporary life, into the most secret corners of consciousness of the characters. The novel's characters, Lucien and David, the young provincial poet and his friend, a naive inventor is looking at reality through rose-colored glasses. However, once in need pliers, they gradually become disillusioned in the same ideals, getting to know what mechanisms actually control the society. Comes bitter clarity: good intentions maturing boys pave the road to success at any cost.
