The miniaturist

The author takes us to the Amsterdam of the seventeenth century, in the house of a very wealthy merchant Johan Brandt. Here comes the nella Oortman, that is betrothed for Brandt. She was not acquainted with her future husband, but is ready to become a good wife to him.
She feels that Johan is not like everyone else. He's smart, educated, independent, and it attracts her.
Nella young, full of hope and very poor knowledge of life. But fate will see to it that she long dwelt in happy ignorance. She will learn how cruel people are to those who are different from them, and realize that there is nothing worse than knowing what happens.
