The heroes of the novel by Eric Ambler novels is not "James bond", not supermen, not the super-spies, and often not even professional scouts, but ordinary people. They do work for intelligence agencies, others just get random participants of the Big game. They are not without human weaknesses and are able to errors and miscalculations, and uncommon manifestations of mind and courage.
