The book by Polish writer and journalist Hanna Krall written on the basis of conversations with Marek Edelman, one of those who led the resistance to the Nazis in the Warsaw ghetto, and the only survivor after his defeat; subsequently, Edelman became a cardiologist. Publication of the book "Ahead of the Lord God" caused a sensation. Simple, clear words, nothing intentionally glossing over and avoiding pathos, Edelman talks about the destruction of the Warsaw ghetto and the people with whom he was then pushed fate. He talks about things truly terrible, from which the blood run cold. As writes in the afterword to the book by Yevgeny Yevtushenko, "the only knowledge the information leads to knowledge of human hearts."
