Red room

The first naturalistic novel in Sweden is considered a "Red room". This novel, written in 1879, was put forward by August Strindberg among the leading writers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Strindberg became the founder of modern Swedish literature and modern theatre, his plays anticipated the emergence of expressionism and theatre of the absurd. The conflict between external appearance and inner essence of people and events, "the war of the sexes", the confrontation between man and evil – these topics are saturated with the works of writer and playwright.
